WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development is awarding three competitive grants totaling $183,555.29 to Iowa for low-income housing through the Housing Preservation Grant program.
“These funds will help Iowans make energy efficiency and safety improvements to their homes,” Grassley said.
The Office of Rural Development will distribute the funds as shown below.
• The Region XII Council of Governments, which serves Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Green, Guthrie and Sac counties, and part of Dallas County, will receive $61,185.29
• The South Central Iowa Community Action Program, Inc., which serves Clarke, Decatur, Lucas, Monroe and Wayne counties, will receive $61,185
• The Southwest Iowa Housing Trust Fund Inc., which serves Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page and Shelby counties, and part of Pottawattamie County, will receive $61,185
The Housing Preservation Grant program provides funds to non-profit organizations and local governments, which in turn provide loans, grants or loan and grant combinations to eligible applicants to ensure that rural single and multi-family housing stocks are adequate, meet current safety standards and are accessible by individuals with disabilities.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
