Disaster Aid to Iowa after Severe Storms

 

 

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today provided information about the federal government’s amended list of Iowa counties that will be eligible for FEMA funds for recovery from the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that occurred from June 1st to August 31st, 2010.  The list was updated to designate Monroe County as eligible for the Individual Assistance program. 

 

FEMA will now provide individual assistance to Appanoose, Black Hawk, Cherokee, Clayton, Decatur, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Howard, Humboldt, Ida, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Kossuth, Lee, Lucas, Lyon, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, O’Brien, Osceola, Polk, Ringgold, Sioux, Story, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Webster, and Wright counties through the Individual Assistance program.  The Individual Assistance program assists individuals and households.

 

FEMA will now provide public assistance to Adams, Appanoose, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Buchanan, Buena Vista, Butler, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clarke, Clay, Clayton, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Delaware, Dickinson, Dubuque, Emmet, Fayette, Franklin, Guthrie, Hamilton, Henry, Howard, Humboldt, Ida, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Lucas, Lyon, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Mills, Monroe, Montgomery, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Sioux, Story, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Webster, and Wright counties through the Public Assistance program.  The Public Assistance program assists state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.

 

All Iowa counties are also eligible to apply for assistance through the Hazard Mitigation Grant program.  The Hazard Mitigation Grant program assists state and local governments and certain private non-profit organizations for actions taken to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural hazards.

 

Grassley sent a letter to President Obama asking him to grant Governor Chet Culver’s request to declare Iowa a major disaster area as a result of the severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that occurred from June 1st to August 31st, 2010.
