$270,000 to Iowa State University

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University has received two competitive grants totaling $270,000 from the National Science Foundation.

The university will use $230,000 to fund the project entitled, “Novel Manufacturing of Bio-inspired Metal Matrix Composites by Semisolid Forming-Joining,” and $40,000 for the

“Construction Engineering Conference: Opportunity and Vision for Education, Practice and Research” in Blacksburg, Va., from September 30, 2010, to October 2, 2010.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
