WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two competitive grants totaling $471,011 to the University of Iowa.
The university will receive $421,021 from the National Institute on Deafness and Other
Communication Disorders to conduct biological research related to deafness and communicative disorders, and $49,990 from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to provide collaborative care models to older adults with mental illness.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
