WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women has awarded a $300,000 grant to the Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa in Des Moines through the Sexual Assault Services Program.
"These funds will help provide assistance and support to sexual assault victims," Grassley said.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Monsoon United Asian Women of Iowa will use the funds to conduct a strengths and needs assessment and develop a strategic plan for sexual assault services addressing the access needs of Asian Pacific Islander communities throughout the state; support four multilingual advocates to assist with the state-wide community assessment; produce an oral history project that utilizes storytelling as a method of counseling or therapy; convene community outreach efforts by youth peer-to-peer counselors; and hire a part-time sexual assault multilingual advocate coordinator to provide sexual assault advocacy, training and programming.
