$348,679 to Iowa from Department of Transportation

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $348,679 grant to Iowa through the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grants program.

According to the Department of Transportation, the funds will be used to enhance state and local planning, preparedness and training for emergency responses to transportation incidents.  This grant is funded by hazmat industry registration fees, not taxpayer dollars.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
