“These funds will help provide resources to make schools more safe,” Grassley said.

The U.S. Department of Justice will distribute the funds as shown below.

• Cedar Falls Police Division will receive $112,077

• Mahaska County will receive $13,911

• Mason City will receive $55,650

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Secure Our Schools Grant program helps pay for school safety resources and gives schools the opportunity to establish and enhance a variety of school safety equipment and/or programs.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
