WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said that the National Park Service has awarded four grants totaling $486,853 to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources through the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will distribute the money as shown below.
• The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will give $179,427 to the Woodbury County Conservation Board to assist in the development of a restroom/shower facility and other outdoor recreational amenities at Bigelow Park
• The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will use $75,000 to assist in the development of interpretive displays at Lewis & Clark State Park
• The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will use $50,000 to assist in the development of a new well at Pikes Peak State Park
• The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will use $182,426 to assist in the renovation of the campground utilities at Union Grove State Park
The Land and Water Conservation Fund provides matching grants to help state and local governments purchase and develop public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. These investments are intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and facilities across the United States and to stimulate non-federal investments in the protection and maintenance of recreation resources.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
