$558,150 to Southeastern Community College from the National Science Foundation

WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the National Science Foundation has awarded a $558,150 competitive grant to Southeastern Community College in Burlington through the S-STEM program.

Southeastern Community College will use the money to help pay for a project titled, “Success in STEM.”

According to the National Science Foundation, the S-STEM program provides funding to institutions of higher education to support scholarships for academically talented, financially needy students, enabling them to enter the workforce following completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate-level degree in science and engineering disciplines.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
