WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two competitive grants totaling $560,503 to Iowa State University and Exemplar Genetics, LLC, in Sioux Center.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it will distribute the money as shown below.
• $129,935 to Exemplar Genetics, LLC, from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for the development of a porcine model of atherosclerosis.
• $430,568 to Iowa State University from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for virus and cell regulation of reovirus escape from translation inhibition
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
