WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University received a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
According to the National Science Foundation, the university will the money to fund the project entitled, “CAREER: Ultrafast Magnetism in Complex Materials: Coherent and Cooperative Phenomena.” The project will include education and outreach programs for students and teachers from the high school level to the graduate level, and is designed to attract students to science through the development of new course material emphasizing ultrafast laser technology.
The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
