WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded two grants totaling $665,000 to airports in Burlington and Washington.
“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities in these communities,” Grassley said.
The funds will be distributed as follows:
• Southeast Iowa Regional Airport in Burlington will receive $120,000 for taxiway rehabilitation
• Washington Municipal Airport in Washington will receive $545,000 for runway rehabilitation
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
