WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that NASA awarded a $700,508 competitive grant to the University of Northern Iowa through the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.
"These funds will help the University of Northern Iowa work with NASA and other institutions of higher learning around the United States to provide research imporat to NASA's mission," Grassley said.
The University of Northern Iowa will use the money to help pay for a research program titled, "Multifunctional Polymer Matrix Composites."
According to NASA, the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research assists states in establishing an academic research enterprise directed toward a long-term, self-sustaining and competitive capability that will contribute to its economic viability and development. The program also helps develop partnerships between NASA research assets, academic institutions and industry. The program selects proposals that support all four of NASA's mission directorates: aeronautics, exploration systems, science and space operations.
