$75,000 to Humeston from USDA

WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development awarded a $75,000 competitive grant to Humeston through the Community Facilities Grant Program.

“These funds should help Humeston better respond to emergencies in the area,” Grassley said.

Humeston will use the money to help purchase a new ambulance to include an attached ambulance box with patient treatment area, equipment, supply storage area, patient cot, lighting, siren and safety equipment. Wayne County was declared a Presidential Disaster area for both individual and community assistance.

The Community Facilities Grant program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
