$750,000 to University of Northern Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $750,000 in congressionally directed spending to the University of Northern Iowa.

UNI will use the funds to develop a center to address the literacy needs of children in early childhood with developmental and sensory disabilities.

“Area children should benefit from the learning opportunities this funding makes possible,” Grassley said.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
