WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two grants totaling $783,449 to the Iowa State Department of Public Health and the University of Iowa.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Iowa State Department of Public Health will receive $475,114 from the National Center for Infectious Diseases to build and strengthen an epidemiology, laboratory and health information system, and the University of Iowa will receive $308,335 from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to conduct a randomized control trial to improve teen driving.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
