$861,153 to University of Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the University of Iowa has received two grants totaling $861,153 from the National Science Foundation.

According to the National Science Foundation, the university will use $478,762 to fund the project entitled, “Basic Laboratory Experiments of Plasma Turbulence: Alfven Wave Collisions,” and $382,391 to fund the project entitled, "Spectral Characterization of Atmospheric Dust from the IR to the UV: A Combined Laboratory and Modeling Study of Composition, Size, and Shape Effects on Dust Optical Properties.”

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
