WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a grant totaling $97,947 to Iowa State University under the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, Iowa State University will use the money to help create a new combined minor in a world language (Chinese, French, German, Russian Studies or Spanish) with a major in Global Resource Systems to more fully explore, understand and develop the interdisciplinary connections among collaborating programs; expand the curricular content of courses that share the interconnections of linguistic, cross-cultural, and technological understanding in the context of biodiversity; and increase opportunities for students to engage in studies abroad, internships, and experiential learning focused on biodiversity.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
