WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released a $12,412 grant to the Ottumwa Police Department and Wapello County Sheriff’s Department through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program.
“These funds will help give law enforcement officers necessary equipment to better serve and protect the residents in Ottumwa and the rest of Wapello County,” Grassley said.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program allows states and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.
The funds will be distributed from the U.S. Department of Justice as shown below.
· The Ottumwa Police Department will receive $10,550 of the grant and use the funds to help purchase two patrol rifles, ammunition, two desktop computers, two tasers and a laptop computer.
· The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department will receive $1,862 of the grant and use the funds to help purchase two patrol rifles.
