Grassley: $190,950 to Iowa from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security


 

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded $190,950 in grants to Iowa through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
 
“These funds will help these fire departments provide training and purchase equipment to better keep their communities safe,” Grassley said.
 
This funding is part of round 7 of the fiscal 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Operations and Safety Program and Vehicle Acquisition Program. 
 
The Operations and Safety Program helps provide training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities to fire departments. 
 
The Vehicle Acquisition Program helps provide vehicles such as pumpers, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, quints, aerials, foam units and fireboats to fire departments.
           
The grant funds from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be distributed as shown below.
 
  • Delmar Volunteer Fire/EMS Department will receive $34,200 through the Operations and Safety program.
  • Sioux Center Fire and Rescue will receive $156,750 through the Vehicle Acquisition program.
