WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa have received grants totaling $1,749,999 from the National Science Foundation.
“Math and science are keys to many aspects of our economy,” Grassley said. “These funds will go a long way to help keep innovation in Iowa.”
The National Science Foundation has awarded funds to facilitate projects, as described below.
· $1.6 million to KirkwoodCommunity College for a project titled “AgrowKnowledge Resource Center.” AgrowKnowledge’s mission is to encourage and support improved technical education for community college students enrolled in agriculture, food, and natural resources programs.
· $149,999 to the Universityof Iowa for a project titled “Multivariable Operator Theory.” The research is aimed at resolving some outstanding problems in multivariable operator theory. They are also working to create recruitment and retention opportunities for women and minorities to pursue careers in mathematics.
