Grassley: $310,594 in Grants to Iowa for AmeriCorps Projects

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the Corporation for National and Community Service has awarded two grants totaling $310,594 to Iowa for AmeriCorps programs. The Corporation for National and Community Service provides federal grants, volunteers, training, and other resources to help meet pressing community needs.

AmeriCorps programs work through existing organizations and help them reach more people to better achieve their mission. Members work to meet critical needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other human needs.

AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, pay off student loans, or cover future tuition costs after their year of full-time service. This award may be pro-rated for lesser terms of service. Members have up to seven years to redeem their awards.

“These grants will keep the spirit of service alive and well,” Grassley said. “It’s a win-win for both the member who serves and the community they serve. The member receives a small stipend, money for college, and great experience while the community receives the help it needs.”
