Washington - Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented policing Services (COPS) is providing grants totaling $338,976 to Iowa through the COPS Secure Our Schools Program.
"Schools should be a safe place for our kids," Grassley said. "These funds will help law enforcement improve safety and deter crime at schools in these communities."
The grant funds provide up to 50 percent of the total cost for municipalities to install metal detectors, locks, lighting and other equipment that can help deter crime as well as cover 50 percent of the cost of security assessments and training.
The funds will be distributed by the U.S. Department of Justice as described below.
v Correctionville will receive $27,262.
v Des Moines will receive $175,000.
v Ottumwa will receive $14,739.
v Scott County Sheriff’s Department in Davenport will receive $121,975.
