Grassley: $366,728 to the Des Moines Independent Community School District from U.S. Department of Education

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $366,728 grant to the Des Moines Independent Community School District. The grant is funded by the Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Program.

“These funds will help make sure that counselors are available when kids need help,” Grassley said.

The Des Moines Independent Community School District will use the funds to support counseling programs in targeted elementary schools. This will allow the schools to lower the student per mental health professional ratios and reduce the number of disciplinary referrals in the targeted schools.

The purpose of the Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Program is to support efforts by local schools to establish or expand elementary and secondary school counseling programs.
