Grassley: $432,081 to Iowa from U.S. Department of Justice


  

            WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has awarded two grants totaling $432,081 to Iowa through the Developing and Enhancing Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Grant Program and the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program.

 

          “These funds will help enhance programs designed to create safe neighborhoods as well as help ensure victims of crime remain safe and knowledgeable about their offender,” Grassley said.

           

The funds will be distributed from the U.S. Department of Justice as shown below.

 

v Iowa Department of Justice in Des Moines will receive a $333,000 grant through the Developing and Enhancing Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Program to help ensure victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to their case by being able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity.

v Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy will receive a $99,081 grant through the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program to help increase police presence in problematic neighborhoods, provide additional investigative resources for gun-related activity, increase the awareness of federal firearms laws and crime scene investigation techniques, and increase resource sharing efforts to combat gun crime and divert juveniles at high risk for gang involvement. Funding will also be used to continue the Search of Information with Firearms Tie-Ins. Money from this grant will be distributed to the Council Bluffs, Davenport and Des Moines police departments.
