Grassley: $447,174 Released to Iowa Program from U.S. Department of Justice

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs has released $447,174 to Urban Dreams in Des Moines. The funds were appropriated during the fiscal 2008 appropriations process.

“The funds will help focus on keeping kids out of the juvenile justice system by strengthening prevention and intervention services to stop problems before they arise,” Grassley said.

The funds will help Urban Dreams’ Urban Children Are Really Essential Project expand their work with high-risk youth in Des Moines and Waterloo to Ames, Davenport and Iowa City. Urban Dreams will provide direct prevention services, high-risk youth intervention services, systems improvement projects to increase local capacity to serve targeted youth and ultimately lower the high minority rates within the juvenile justice system.
