Grassley: $500,000 for Workforce Development from U.S. Department of Labor


  

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the Department of Labor awarded two grants totaling $500,000 for workforce development through Workforce Investment Act National Emergency grant funds.


 

“These funds will help improve workforce development across many

Iowa counties,” Grassley said.


 

The funds were awarded to facilitate two workforce development projects, as described below.

 

C                     --$250,000 to Iowa Workforce Development in Des Moines to fund a project that will result in a regional strategic implementation plan for workforce and talent development, establish the Workforce Innovation Strategy and Planning Office to implement the plan, and create a feasibility study for a STEM Workforce Academy/Center of Excellence, and start a site selection study for the development of the Tri-State Siouxland Region One-Stop Career Center. This project will cover Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Monona,

Plymouth , and Woodbury counties.


 

C                     --$250,000 to Workforce Development, Inc. in Rochester, Minnesota to fund a project intended to identify, analyze, and map the assets of the Seven Rivers tri-state region, strengthen the regional identity, and develop an educational focus for improved workforce capacity and long-term sustainability of the strategies developed through the regional innovation grant. This project will cover Allamakee, Fayette, Clayton, Howard, Winneshiek, Chickasaw,

Delaware and Dubuque counties.
