Grassley: $627,014 to Iowa from USDA


 

WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded 10 grants totaling $627,014 to Iowa through the Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvements Grant and Loan Combination Program.
 
“These funds will help those in rural Iowa reduce their energy costs and consumption,” Grassley said.
 
Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Guaranteed Loans and Grants help agricultural producers or rural small businesses reduce energy costs and consumption in order to meet the nation's critical energy needs.
The grant and loan funds from the Office of Rural Development will be distributed as shown below.
 
  • A $17,675 grant and a $17,675 loan to Joseph L. Dierickx in De Witt to replace two, 31-year old dryers with a new grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 36 percent.
  • A $49,999 grant and a $49,999 loan to Max S. Schmidt Jr. in Elma to replace an old grain dryer with a new, more energy efficient continuous flow grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 59.5 percent.
  • A $10,387 grant and a $10,388 loan to James Kuennen in FortAtkinson to replace an old, inefficient grain dryer with a new, more efficient continuous flow grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 60.9 percent.
  • A $19,111 grant and a $19,111 loan to Steven M. Vaughn in Garrison to replace a 20-year old grain bin with a new grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 47 percent.
  • A $25,160 grant and a $25,160 loan to Nicholas H. Zuercher in Luana to replace an old grain dryer with a new, more efficient grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 71.2 percent.
  • A $20,272 grant and a $20,272 loan to Moeckly Farms in Polk City to replace a 34-year old grain dryer with an energy efficient grain drying system.
  • A $49,979 grant and a $49,979 loan to Wilson Agri, Inc. in PrairieCity to install a more efficient grain drying system. Energy savings are projected to be 58.67 percent.
  • A $37,266 grant and a $37,267 loan to JRT Focus Farms, Ltd. in Rock Rapids to purchase and install a geothermal system for the farm’s shop and office.
  • A $12,500 grant and a $12,500 loan to Paul Boehnke in Ventura to replace an inefficient grain flow dryer with a new, highly efficient grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 31.4 percent.
  • A $28,322 grant and a $28,322 loan to Douglas Clair Swingen in Woden to replace an old grain drying system with a new grain dryer. Energy savings are projected to be 59.41 percent.
