Grassley: Afghan Investment Agency to Sponsor ‘Matchmaker’ Conferences

Des Moines
will be Second Stop on Tour

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley today said that the Afghan Investment Support Agency will be sponsoring a conference in Des Moines to bring awareness to Iowa businesses about development in Afghanistan as well as promote partnerships between Iowa and Afghanistan businesses.

Grassley said that this conference will provide unique networking opportunities for Iowa and Afghanistan-based business people.  Grassley first began a relationship with the Afghanistan Embassy in 2005 during his biennial Ambassadors Tour.  The tour brings representatives from foreign embassies located in Washington, D.C. to Iowa for five days.

The conference, “Investing in Afghanistan: The Heart of Asia” will take place on Wednesday, November 1st, from 10:30 am. – Noon.  It will be held in the Arthur Davis Conference room at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, 700 Locust Street, in Des Moines.

The conference will aim to bring awareness to North American business communities the most recent economic, legal, and institutional development in Afghanistan.  Conference leaders also hope to stress the importance of a partnership between local Afghan companies, and U.S. investors in contributing to the economic vitality of Afghanistan, and the sharing of opportunities that arise from its innovative market.

In addition to hearing a presentation regarding the numerous investing opportunities in Afghanistan, attendees will have the opportunity to network with prominent leaders in the Afghan government and private sector.
