Grassley Announces $199,515 to Indian Hills Community College

WASHINGTON- Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development has awarded $199,515 to Indian Hills Community College through the Community Facility Grant Program.

These funds will be used to purchase and install a live-fire burn prop building to provide specialized fire training to area fire fighters and first responders.

“Modern equipment helps these brave men and women protect our communities,” Grassley said.  “The training provided through this grant could result in fewer fire related deaths and injuries in Wapello County.”

According to the USDA, Community Facility Grant funds may be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community services.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
