Grassley Announces Appointment of Young Iowans to West Point

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that Charles Clifton Godwin and Shawn Thomas Burrows have been offered appointments to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Godwin is a senior at Exira High School and the son of Marian and Tom Godwin.  Burrows is a senior at Bondurant-Farrar High School and the son of Kate and Bob Burrows.

“Charles and Shawn are both great students who are heavily involved in their schools and communities.  They deserve this opportunity, and I’m proud they’ll be representing Iowa at West Point,” Grassley said.

Each year, Grassley nominates young Iowans to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point, N.Y.  Information on the application process is available on Grassley’s website at http://grassley.senate.gov/info/academy_nominations.cfm.  Eligible students are encouraged to apply.  Applications for the 2012-2013 academic year are due to Grassley’s Cedar Rapids office by October 1, 2011.

Grassley expects additional academy appointments to be offered this year and will issue announcements when appointments are offered.
