WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate is in a week-long recess starting today, and Senator Chuck Grassley is in Iowa for constituent meetings in Maquoketa, DeWitt, Davenport, Eldridge, Wilton, Wapello, Keokuk, Burlington, Keosauqua, Wayland, and Amana.
“Representative government is a two-way street,” Grassley said. “As an elected representative, I have an obligation to go to Iowans. Likewise, they have a responsibility to come to me to express points of view. I appreciate the commitment of Iowans to making this process work.”
Grassley has held a constituent meeting in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties every year since he was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980. The senator said he holds town meetings in many communities but also goes to workplaces for question-and-answer sessions with Iowans who may not be able to attend a town meeting during the work day. Grassley also regularly visits service clubs and high schools.
“All of these meetings give me a chance to talk face-to-face with Iowans. I answer their questions and listen to what they have to say,” Grassley said. “This dialogue, along with other ways of keeping in touch, is essential to making representative government work.”
In addition to regular meetings in Iowa, Grassley is committed to responding to every constituent letter, email and phone call. He communicates with Iowans on facebook and twitter. He is a regular guest on public affairs programs statewide and responds to questions on any subject on radio, television and through tele-town hall meetings with Iowans.
Below are details of the meetings planned for this week. There is time after every meeting for local media interviews. To attend meetings that are not town meetings, the host of the event should be contacted.
