WASHINGTON-Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the Department of Homeland Security released grant guidance and application materials for the 2008 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program. Applications will be accepted beginning Tuesday, May 27, at 8 a.m. EDT and will close on Friday, June 27, at 5 p.m. EDT.
"I encourage any eligible state and local agencies to apply for this funding," Grassley said. "These funds will help local firefighters protect our communities by increasing their staff and assuring they have adequate protection.”
The fiscal 2008 funding seeks to increase the number of frontline firefighters, through hiring as well as recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters, in order to attain 24-hour staffing to ensure communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards. The grants pay a portion of the salaries of newly hired firefighters.
