Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Weather Service, and the Iowa Emergency Management Agency, as well as representatives from local disaster service agencies, will meet with officials and residents from Harrison, Pottawattamie, Mills, and Fremont counties to discuss ways to combat flooding of the Missouri River and its many tributaries.
Grassley encourages the general public and local residents, especially those who live along the river basins, to attend. The conference will focus on county disaster preparation and assistance available from federal and state agencies. Grassley advises participants to come ready with their questions and concerns.
"We have all seen the tragic pictures of the recent flooding along the Ohio River Valley, and it isn't too difficult to remember similar flooding along the Missouri River," said Grassley. "This important conference will bring together government agencies, community leaders and local residents to prepare for any future flooding in Southwest Iowa. I urge all concerned Iowans to attend."
