WASHINGTON—Senator Chuck Grassley today said that President George Bush has amended his May 28 Disaster Declaration to include additional counties for Individual and Public Assistance. Grassley has continued to push the Administration to declare more flooded counties as federal disaster areas.
“Floodwaters are flowing downstream creating a new path of destruction in several Iowa communities, and as waters begin to recede other communities are just now seeing the devastation,” Grassley said. “With the President visiting Iowa tomorrow, I think he’ll see first-hand the impact the floods have had on communities across Iowa. His quick action is appropriate and necessary to help these areas recover.”
Counties added today for Individual Assistance under the most recent declaration include Chickasaw, Crawford, Jasper, Mahaska, Mills, Monona and Warren. Individual Assistance is federal assistance available to individuals and households.
Counties added today for Public Assistance under the most recent declaration include Adair, Allamakee, Fayette, Hancock, Humboldt, Johnson, Jones, Kossuth, Madison, Page, Taylor and Webster. Public Assistance allows state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations to receive assistance on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flooding.
Grassley encourages everyone with losses to register for any available federal assistance.
“It doesn’t cost anything to sign up and may save some time and anxiety in the future. People may never need the assistance, but it’s nice to be covered if it’s necessary,” Grassley said
President Bush has now amended his May 28 Disaster Declaration six times. The complete list of counties available for Individual Assistance include Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Crawford, Delaware, Des Moines, Fayette, Floyd, Fremont, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Louisa, Mahaska, Marion, Mills, Monona, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Story, Tama, Union, Warren, and Winneshiek Counties.
