WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa today congratulated Christopher Self, a senior at Aplington-Parkersburg High School, for winning third prize in C-SPAN’s 2015 StudentCam competition. In this national competition, over 2,000 videos were submitted from almost 5,000 students across 45 states and Washington, D.C.
“It’s wonderful that an Iowa student competed and earned this recognition,” Grassley said. “I congratulate Christopher for his achievement. He’s demonstrating a commitment to engaging in public policy issues and being a civic leader. And our system of government relies on citizen participation.”
The StudentCam competition invites students in grades 6-12 to produce a five- to- seven minute documentary on a national policy issue. This year, students were asked to create a video following the prompt, “The Three Branches and You: tell a story that demonstrates how a policy, law, or action by either the executive, legislative, or judicial branch has affected you or your community.”
Self is among 347 students from across the country winning a total of $100,000, including one grand prize winner, four first prize winners, 16 second prize winners, 32 third prize winners and 97 honorable mentions. Self will receive $750 for his third place documentary.
