Grassley Applauds Iowan’s Selection as American Legion Commander


  

           WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today congratulated David K. Rehbein of Ames following after he was elected national Commander of the American Legion.

 

            “I’ve come to know David as a lifelong servant of our country through both his distinguished service in the Army and his career at the U.S. Department of Energy,” Grassley said. “The American Legion has selected a deserving candidate in this Iowan and I am confident he will serve millions of Legion veterans with honor. Barbara and I send our congratulations to David and his family.”

 

            Prior to being elected as the American Legion’s National Commander, he was a member of the Ames Post #37, serving as its commander and adjutant after 12 years as the finance officer. He served as an infantryman with the 4th and 1st Armored Divisions in Germany from 1970 to 1971. After leaving the Army, he attended Wayne State College and Iowa State University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in physics and a Master’s degree in metallurgy. David then took a position in the Ames Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy until he retired in July, 2008.
