Grassley Hosting an Event to Recognize Talented and Gifted Students


Iowan Among the 17 Students Receiving Recognition


? Sen. Chuck Grassley is hosting a reception this evening to honor 17 talented and gifted high school students from across the country, including Alexander Power of Cedar Falls.

The event, which Grassley is hosting with Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, will be held at the Library of Congress at 5:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Davidson Institute, which will award these students with $50,000 or $10,000 scholarships.

"Gifted children throughout the country are a vital national resource that will become increasingly important for our future prosperity and social well-being. The Davidson Institute plays an important role in supporting these young people and helping them direct their gifts to positive and meaningful projects," Grassley said.

Grassley has been a strong advocate for talented and gifted children and has worked to ensure that they have access to the education needed to reach their full potential. Most recently, Grassley worked to expand the benefits available for gifted students through the No Child Left Behind Act.

Grassley congratulated Power of Cedar Falls for winning a $10,000 scholarship for his project, On Chromatic Polynomials and the Properties of their Chromatic Growth Ratios.

he Davidson Fellows Award encourages, recognizes and rewards young people for a significant achievement in science, technology, mathematics, music, literature or philosophy. Applicants must be under the age of 18 and submit a significant piece of work that has the potential to make a positive contribution to society.

The Davidson Institute for Talent Development is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to serving profoundly gifted young people.
