WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will release funds totaling $1,066,084 to Iowa. Grassley secured the funding through the fiscal 2008 appropriations process.
“These funds will help provide Iowans with quality health care as well as produce quality health professionals,” Grassley said. “Iowans will benefit from the investments made to update hospital equipment and improve health care delivery.”
The funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be distributed as shown below.
v Kirkwood Community College, in Cedar Rapids will receive $213,022 to help develop the Advanced Medical Simulation Instructional Center which would include a model operating room and emergency room. The Center will serve training needs for students enrolled in health science and continuing education programs and supplement the high school Career Academy vocational experience. Teams from Kirkwood=s Community Disaster and Response Center will conduct simulations at the facility to provide hands-on training.
v Mercy Medical Center – House of Mercy in Des Moines will receive $473,707 to help provide funds for facilities and equipment related to substance abuse.
v Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa will receive $379,355 to help purchase a Mammomat Novation DR digital mammography unit and appropriate support software, as well as renovate the current mammography suite. This unit will reduce patient exposure to radiation, lower the number of ‘false positives’ and provide for partnership and use of tele-radiology networks throughout southeast
Iowa . The digital unit will allow for the discontinuance of traditional x-ray methods for mammography.
