WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the Department of Labor has released $1,918,696 in Trade Adjustment Assistance funds to Iowa.
“These funds will be a helping hand up to workers so they can receive training for new skills and can better compete for new jobs in the future,” Grassley said.
The Trade Adjustment Assistance Program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. The Trade Adjustment Assistance program offers a variety of benefits and reemployment services to help unemployed workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. Workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support, and other reemployment services.
The Department of Labor had $34 million left in the reserves which was divided among 19 states with the highest TAA expenditures. Iowa’s share will be divided as shown below.
v $1,247,042 for training
v $421,389 for job search and relocation
v $250,265 for administrative costs
