Grassley: More Than $2.7 Million Released to the Iowa Association of School Boards from U.S. Department of Education


 

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Education is releasing funds totaling $2,777,202 to the Iowa Association of School Boards in Des Moines. The funds were awarded in the fiscal 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill.
 
“These funds will help provide teachers and schools with resources that will help Iowa students reach their full potential,” Grassley said.
 
The funds released from the U.S. Department of Education will be distributed as shown below.
 
  • The Iowa Association of School Boards will receive a $2,394,015 to expand the Iowa School Boards Foundation Skills Iowa program. The program provides on-line assessment and tutorial tools and the training and the support to implement them to 225 school buildings that serve nearly 63,000 Iowa K-12 students and support 3400 Iowa teachers.
  • The Iowa Association of School Boards will receive a $383,187 to continue to Phase III of the Lighthouse Project which will emphasize broad-based dissemination and replication of information learned from research of Lighthouse Phases I and II to ensure research-based board support is provided in every district for large-scale improvement of achievement.
