Grassley Presents World War II Medals to Area Vets


SIOUX CITY ? Sen. Chuck Grassley today honored Siouxland World War II veterans for their service and sacrifice.

He presented the Asiastic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars and the World War II Victory Medal to Donald Molden of Sioux City.

Leo Camerer of Hinton was given his Navy Occupation SVC Medal with Asia Clasp, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two silver and one bronze serve star, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Honorable Service Lapel Pin.

Kenneth Susie of Correctionville was unable to attend this morning's ceremony due to an illness in his family. He was recognized by Grassley for his service and will receive a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze star, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Honorable Service Lapel Pin WWII and Sharpshooter Badge.

Finally, Robert Gapp of Sioux City was posthumously recognized by Grassley for his service. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one silver and one bronze service star and a World War II Victory Medal.

"We should all be grateful for the sacrifices made by these individuals so that we could have the freedom and liberties we enjoy today. It's especially important that new generations of Americans appreciate what our veterans have given on our behalf," Grassley said during the morning event at his office here.
