WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released a statement regarding the passing of Henry Kissinger.
“I compliment Henry Kissinger on his public service, steady hand during the Cold War and excellent books on world affairs. He served as both Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, the only person to hold both positions concurrently for a time, and was responsible for opening diplomatic relations with China and negotiating the end of the Vietnam War.
“On a few occasions, Kissinger came to Capitol Hill as a private citizen to give his outlook on world affairs. I listened intently to his detailed and deliberate presentations – it was evident he gave careful thought to every word. Whether you agreed with him or not on various positions, he was a towering intellect and you had to take him seriously. Barbara and I send our condolences and prayers to his family.”
