Grassley Sponsors West Point Academy Afternoon

? Sen. Chuck Grassley announced today he will sponsor "West Point Academy Afternoon" to provide military academy information for Iowa high school students and their parents on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m., at the Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls.

Grassley encourages all interested high school students to attend the program, which is designed to inform students how to seek a nomination and appointment to West Point Military Academy, in West Point, New York. Grassley's regional director from his Waterloo office, Fred Schuster, will attend the information session on his behalf.

"Military academies offer a wonderful option for outstanding students who are making a decision about their future and higher education needs," said Grassley. "I recommend that interested high school students and their parents attend West Point Afternoon. It's a good opportunity to get your questions answered about a military academy."

The Admissions Officer from West Point, Captain Paul Davidson, will present the program and take questions from participants. The Iowa liaison officer for West Point Academy, Lt. Col. Rich Gaard, also will attend. For more information, contact Lt. Col. Rich Gaard: 319/382-3643.

Students interested in making an application can do so through Grassley's Washington office. Students should start the application process during their junior year in high school. For application materials or more information, contact Sen. Chuck Grassley, 135 Hart Bldg., Washington, D.C., 20501-1501. His e-mail address is chuck_grassley@grassley.senate.gov.
