Grassley: Two Iowa Counties Designated Contiguous Disaster Counties

Fremont and Pottawattamie Counties Are Eligible For Assistance

WASHINGTON — Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has declared Fremont and Pottawattamie counties contiguous disaster counties. Eligibility is considered by measuring losses caused by excessive rain, flooding, flash flooding, high winds, hail, lightning and tornadoes that occurred between May 22 and July 18, 2008.

"This comes as welcome news to the Iowans in Fremont and Pottawattamie counties who experienced losses following this summer's severe weather," Grassley said. "I hope all those affected will register with the Farm Service Agency."

Applicants in Fremont and Pottawattamie counties are eligible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements are met.  The Farm Service Agency will consider each application on its own merit by taking into account the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.
