Senator Grassley will meet with Iowans in Washington, D.C., from the Iowa State Association of Counties, Mission: Readiness, KCRG-TV, the Iowa Medical Society, the Polk County Medical Society, the American Legion of Iowa, the Iowa Alliance of YMCAs, School Administrators of Iowa, Iowa Public Television, the American Physical Therapy Association Private Practice Section, the Iowa Council of the Blind, the Iowa Broadcasters Association, the Garden Club of America, the Mason City and Clear Lake Chambers of Commerce, the Rare Disease Legislative Advocates, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, the American Chiropractic Association, the National Hemophilia Foundation, and the Keokuk Area Hospital. Grassley will also meet with alumni from Iowa State University and Linn County Public Health Director Pramod Dwivedi.
Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa families from Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa students from Riverside High School in Oakland and South Tama High School.
On Tuesday, February 24, at 9:30 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in an Agriculture Committee hearing on “The Agricultural Act of 2014 implementation after one year and Farm Credit Administration pending nominations.” Clay Mitchell, of Buckingham, Iowa, will testify as part of a panel of producers who utilize various programs in the farm bill. His testimony will focus on the 2014 farm bill and several of its programs including: Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), crop insurance, the Conservation Reserve Program, and wetland mitigation. Mitchell owns and farms 2,500 acres of corn and soybeans in Northeast Iowa.
On Tuesday, February 24, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will preside over a Judiciary Committee hearing on “Human Trafficking in the United States: Protecting Victims.” Last week, Grassley introduced a bill to curb human trafficking. More on this bill can be found here. Michael Ferjak, of Des Moines, will testify. Ferjak is a senior criminal investigator with the Iowa Department of Justice. He is also the coordinator for the Iowa Attorney General’s Office Human Trafficking Enforcement and Prosecution Initiative. Ferjak has been involved in law enforcement since 1976, serving in a variety of positions.
On Tuesday, February 24, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Finance Committee hearing on “Tax Reform, Growth and Efficiency.”
On Wednesday, February 25, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in Budget Committee hearing on “The Coming Crisis: America’s Dangerous Debt.”
On Wednesday, February 25, at 2:30 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will host a press conference to launch the Whistleblower Protection Caucus. Grassley is the chairman of the caucus and Sen. On Wednesday, February 25, at 6 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will attend the State Society of Iowa Reception.
On Thursday, February 26, at 9:30 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will preside over the weekly executive business meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The committee may consider the nominations of Loretta E. Lynch to be Attorney General of the United States, Michelle K. Lee to be Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Alfred H. Bennett to be a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, George C. Hanks, Jr. to be a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Jill N. Parrish to be a United States District Judge for the District of Utah, Jose R. Olvera, Jr. to be a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Nancy B. Firestone, to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, Thomas L. Halkowski to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, Patricia M. McCarthy to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, Jeri K. Somers to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, and Armando O. Bonilla to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims. The committee may also consider S. 178, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015, sponsored by Sens. John Cornyn, Dianne Feinstein, Grassley, Amy Klobuchar, Orrin Hatch, Chris Coons, and Lindsay Graham, and S. 166, the Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act of 2015, sponsored by Sens. Klobuchar, Cornyn, Al Franken, and Richard Blumenthal.
On Thursday, February 26, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Finance Committee hearing on “Congress and the U.S. Tariff Policy.”
On Thursday, February 26, at 2 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will host a press conference on the reintroduction of the Campus Accountability and Safety Act with Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Dean Heller. Grassley also cosponsored the bill in the last Congress. More information can be found here.
