"When the current administration assumed power in 1993, all U.S. Attorneys and U.S. Marshals were terminated with little or no notice," Grassley said. "Doing so disrupted important criminal investigations and prosecutions in Iowa and represented a decision by the Clinton administration to put politics over the national interest."
Yesterday, Grassley let Iowa's U.S. Attorneys and U.S. Marshals know of his intentions. "I will encourage President-elect Bush not to follow President Clinton's example," Grassley said.
There are currently two U.S. Attorneys serving in Iowa. They are Stephen Rapp in Iowa's northern district and Don Nickerson in the southern district. Iowa also has two U.S. Marshals. They are Dennis Blome in the northern district and Phyllis Henry in the southern district.
