WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded disaster relief funding totaling $11,077,992.77 to the Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative and the Western Iowa Power Cooperative.
The Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative received $7,538,508.90, and the Western Iowa Power Cooperative received $3,539,483.87, to repair or replace electrical distribution systems that sustained damages as a result of the severe winter storm that occurred in January 2010.
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards. FEMA contributes 75 percent of the total cost of a project. State and local entities contribute the other 25 percent.
