WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, has awarded $1,051,940.70 to Iowa to help the state continue its recovery from severe flooding in 2008.
“Iowans have been working hard to recover from these devastating floods. It’s good to see the federal government work with Iowans to prevent future flooding,” Grassley said.
The funding will be used to reinforce the levee in the Green Bay Levee and Drainage District in Lee County. FEMA obligates the funding to the state, which then distributes the money to the sub-grantee.
Thanks, in part, to the efforts of the Iowa congressional delegation, FEMA will pay for 90 percent of the costs associated with the project above. The delegation sent several letters requesting the federal government take another look at the disaster level to ensure Iowa communities received the assistance to which they were entitled.
