WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women has awarded three competitive grants totaling $1,533,313 to Iowa.
“These funds will help provide support and necessary resources to victims of domestic, dating and sexual assault,” Grassley said.
The U.S. Department of Justice will distribute the funds as shown below.
• Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Des Moines will receive $869,650 through the Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Assistance Program.
• Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault in Des Moines will receive $119,214 through the Grants to State Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program.
• Seeds of Hope in Grundy Center will receive $544,449 through the Education Training and enhanced Services to End Violence Against and Abuse of Women with Disabilities Grant Program.
The Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Assistance Program helps enhance the safety of child, youth and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking by supporting projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural jurisdictions.
The Grants to Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program helps provide support to member rape crisis centers through funding, training, technical assistance and public awareness.
The Education, Training and Enhanced Services to End Violence Against and Abuse of Women with Disabilities Grant Program helps provide training, consultation and information on domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and sexual assault against individuals with disabilities as well as enhance direct services to such individuals.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
